Integrating Informational Text Literacy in Various Content Areas:
First: The Reading
Data Collection or Image/Media Inspiration
http://online.culturegrams.com and log in. Choose any of the editions and go to "Graphs and Tables" to create your own data table. Develop a set of questions based on the comparative data results.
Interesting Graphics/Images: National Geographic, Interesting Photos, Google Image Search - Filter, AP Images from NC Wise Owl, Culture Grams Slide Shows YouTube/Discovery Ed Videos Leveled Readers Informational Text
Use databases to ensure reliable results:

Teach advanced Google searching tips and website evaluation. In CultureGrams, use the provided research Use formative assessment to verify student reading - exit passes, quick summary activities, pair and share, etc. -- use technology like Padlet/Linoit, Socrative, Today's Meet, Kahoot (check out this comparison table with links). |

VideoScribe and iMovie Samples (SchoolTube example and Vimeo example). Consider other video editing tools like Videolicious (3-D printing sample) and WeVideo PowToon "stories" to communicate information - try the templates. Example here. You could also try Wideo for more animated fun. Help them create a presentation that helps them explain rather than explains for them with Haiku Deck. Digital Storytelling Tools i.e. Storybird, StoryJumper, Tellagami (Vokiesque), PhotoPeach, MyHistro, DomoAnimate and Meograph Infographics - contest on infographics representing research on childhood obesity Make a comic to explain a concept. Literacy and Technology Matrix
To go a step further and connect literacy and reading strategies or skills with specific technologies, let's use a collaborative Google Doc to show the connections. Please add to our middle/high matrix or K-5 matrix with scenarios in which you could see using the reading strategy and the technology with a class or content area. Example:
Word walls for vocabulary development - all content areas

Teacher creates a wall with editable stickies that are organized by letter. Students add words from reading to each lettered sticky note i.e. in Biology introducing genetics. Students read basic article and find for A - Amino Acids for C - Code and so on
