Wonder tells the story of Auggie, a ten year old boy who has been home-schooled and is about to start "real" school for the first time. His family is loving and supportive; he's bright; he's very nervous. These may be common feelings but they are unique for Auggie because he has an extreme crano-facial disability that causes others to stare, comment, and show disgust when they see him. The story beautifully explores the important people in Auggie's life and how they are affected by his disability. Auggie's experiences at school will connect to anyone with bullying experiences as well as inspire readers to care about someone different. The book is a hopeful tear-jerker and can be enjoyed by many different ages.
